What better place to talk about on Halloween than Hell's Kitchen?
I've loved Hell's Kitchen for a long time. They used to be in a small, narrow space on 10th Street, serving breakfast and lunch. The owners opened a branch in Duluth two years ago that included a full bar and dinner service, something that annoyed me when the Buffy Sing-Along happened and we couldn't have dinner at the Minneapolis Hell's Kitchen beforehand.
That's all fixed now. Hell's Kitchen recently took over the space vacated by Rossi's Steakhouse, just a block away on 9th Street. It looks like their space has doubled several times over, and they did it up with gusto.
Located appropriately in the basement, you take an elevator from the parking ramp and are greeted by this:
Creepy and ghoulish--but also an amazingly good paint job. No, that's not stone, it's paint.

Why just have one devilish chandelier when you can lots of devilish chandeliers?
Enter the bathrooms, if you dare:

But most important, have something to eat. I haven't been there for dinner yet, although I'd like to, but I love their breakfasts. My favorite huevos rancheros ever:
Crispy tortilla, scrambled eggs, zippy black beans, hash browns, and cheese, baked until perfect, then topped with spicy salsa and sour cream.
Their sausage bread is exemplary too:
Served with their delicious homemade peanut butter. Oh--and one half strawberry. One does have to wonder why a whole strawberry--or gosh, maybe a couple of strawberries--weren't included. Frightening indeed.
If you go for lunch the WBLT (Walleye, bacon, lettuce, tomato) is delicious too. And now that they have a full bar (two, actually--one in the main dining room, the other called the "Far Side Pub" and decorated with many of the popular Far Side comics), this would be a good destination for happy hour. Because this is the happiest anyone could ever be in Hell.

I've never been to Hell's Kitchen. Clearly I will need to rectify that on my next trip to MPLS. Happy Halloween!

What a great halloween choice. I've never been, but every time we drive through Duluth the kids suggest it.

Hell's Kitchen is on my list of Things to Do In MN. That mural is fabulous.
