But first, a reminder to those in the Twin Cities this weekend: the Twin Cities Bookfest is this Saturday. There are several intriguing authors scheduled for readings/signings. Join us!
Another day, another burger. And so it was that we ventured into the Warehouse District in Minneapolis to check off another entry in the Burger Quest. Our destination: the Monte Carlo.
Not much to look at on the outside, the Monte Carlo seems like it's been around forever and is the go-to place for a businessman's lunch. The place was packed on our weekday lunch visit. Service was friendly and efficient, and if it had been later in the day, I would most certainly have ordered the cucumber martini--I've heard their martinis are stellar.
There's nothing like a well-stocked bar.
Well, there is something--a great burger. And here, for the first time, MN Monthly let us down. The Monte Carlo was #18 on its list of 18 best burgers, but I have to say, surely there were other more deserving contenders that didn't make the list.
Not that there was anything wrong with it--but as burgers go, it was pretty basic and very unexciting. A slab o'beef, a slice of cheese, a soggy bun, $10. For less than half that, you can get a better burger at Lions Tap. Of course, you don't get the posh interior or the cucumber martinis, but if a good burger is what you want, that's what I'd recommend. Or, heck, combine a martini with a great burger and go to Vincent's bar, where an outstanding burger will set you back $8 at happy hour (no, I haven't chronicled that one yet--it's coming soon).
I'd go back to Monte Carlo to try the steak menu, and the martinis. But forget the burgers. There are better ones out there.

They do know how to mix drinks at the Monte. But I've always been partial to the steak sandwich myself. With a martini, of course.
