While lost exploring in northeast Minneapolis one day, I stumbled across the intersection of Central Ave and Broadway St, where there is a well-thought-out tribute to NE's diversity (and, increasingly, more of the Twin Cities and the state as well) in the form of art pieces built into the bridge. For those who think of Minnesota as the land of the white-bread Norwegian, this serves as a good reminder that other groups may be in the minority, but collectively the minority is large, and very diverse.
Of course we have some of the original Minneapolitans, the Lakota and the Anishinabe.
We certainly can't forget our Scandinavian heritage. It's a big part of our history.
The western part of Europe is well represented too.
Eastern Europe has some pretty deep roots here as well.
The Middle East is here, as well as Africa.
We have a continually growing Asian presence as well.
And, like many other places in the U.S., our Hispanic population is growing by leaps and bounds.
And yet, at the end of the day (or street, as it were), is a strikingly American sign.
Steak and eggs, anytime.

I love that part of town.

This is really interesting. I love the celebration of the diversity of cultures. Cleveland has nationality gardens which also celebrate folks' heritages.

That is just amazing looking! Why am I designing an afghan of all those squares in my mind? What a great visual/tribute to MN's people.
