Did I ever have a fun week last week. Remember, I saw the Titanic exhibit; if you read my other blog, you know that I had, ahem, a wonderful concert experience; I even read a surprisingly kickass book. In the midst of all that fun and frivolity, I had the opportunity to attend a performance of Cirque du Soleil's Kooza. (By the way, check out that link through July 17 to sign up for a chance to win a pair of free tickets to the July 22 performance.)
What can I say? It was wonderful.

The big top is set up in the Lowertown part of downtown St. Paul. Parking is available in adjacent lots. But of course, it's not what's outside the tent that really matters, as festive as that is.
The circus is hung on the loose framework of the story of the Innocent, searching for his way in the world, and meeting a number of mystical and comical creatures along the way.
It's not every day you run into contortionists.
Or people who can stack chairs far too high in the sky, and then balance on them at odd angles.
These guys? Scared the daylights out of me. Especially when one of them began running around the *outside* of his wheel.
There are jugglers and high-wire acts and trapeze artists and clowns, really funny clowns (not the scary kind), and live music, a pickpocket, a magician, all with a distinctly more theatrical, sophisticated air than a typical circus would have. I've been asked how this compared to previous Cirque du Soleil shows, and having never seen one before, I can't answer that. But I can say that I was enthralled and delighted, and would go again, in a heartbeat.
Note: specially priced tickets are available for certain performances here.

Wow, actual tents! That looks very, very cool.

Love Cirque du Soleil! I've only been to 2 shows, but they are always mesmerizing.
