Some fun cultural bits today.
The Minnesota Opera has commissioned an original opera based on Stephen King's The Shining. At first, I was all "Huuuuuuhhhhhh...." But when I thought about it, The Shining actually would make great source material for an opera. Dramatic, emotional, lots of tension. And I'm very fond of the Minnesota Opera--they do wonderful work.
Today marks the announcement of the National Book Award's longlist for Young People's Literature. Minnesota is a veritable hotbed for talented young adult/middle grade writers, and two of our own made the list: Kate DiCamillo and Anne Ursu. Congrats and best wishes as we wait for the shortlist announcement!
