Wow! Who knew there were so many Buffy fans out there! Y'all just came crawling out of the woodwork!
(get it? get it? crawling out of the woodwork? Buffy? Demons? Vampires? Oh, I just find myself endlessly amusing.)
Seriously, this was great fun for me. I can't believe how many great ideas were generated. Someone suggested a Buffy KAL. In fact, she went ahead and set one up:
Join us! C'mon, I know you're all out there, dying to Buffy knit!
And to inspire you, here's the list of projects suggested for the Buffy Sing-A-Long:
Stand-up collar for a vampire cape
Take a Brittany size 15 needle as Mr. Pointy
Knitted or sewn bag to haul Buffy gear
Flirty Skirt with intarsia blood drops
Evil Willow Bustier (using Annie Modesitt’s Silk Corset)
Socks in the Slayer colorway (so sad, Sweet Georgia is not currently making this yarn, or any yarn—and if you read her yarn names and colorways, you’ll see she’s obviously a Buffy fan too)
Knitted Mr. Pointy (Buffy's wooden stake, for you non-Buffy types)
Kiri shawl in the Angel colorway
A quick scarf decorated with pointy sticks, crucifixes, and holy water
Knitted heart stabbed with bamboo needle, worn as a necklace
Buy a blank journal and write out the Watcher diaries (does anyone else think Giles is totally studly?)
Elann’s free Victorian lace shawl to go as Drusilla
Knitted mini-Spike doll
Knitted helmet liners that the Initiative wore when they raided Buffy and Willow’s dorm room
Carry a handful of tiny stakes—size 0 bamboo
Classic Buffy sweater, big loopy off the shoulder thing
Knitted holder for Mr. Pointy
Knitted Mr. Gordo (extra points for those who suggested this—I’d completely forgotten about Mr. Gordo)
Lacy ensemble that would get Spike all excited for Buffy
Buffy’s black watch cap with rhinestones from season 3 patrols with Faith
Wide knitted belt with pouches to hold wooden stakes, etc.
Cheerleading pompoms (hmm, would that be for Buffy or Cordelia?)
Spiderweb shawl from Folk Shawls
A kitten for Spike
Calorimetry for Buffy’s hair
Scarf with cloves of garlic instead of fringe
Schoolgirl kilt to be Darla
A little square of yellow to carry around while saying, “I wear the cheese. The cheese does not wear me.”
Early Willow fashion: kooky knee socks and lumpy sweaters
Blood-red boa in eyelash yarn
Mirror cozy to wear around my neck for vampire detection
Spike from Knitty
I even got some suggestions of what not to knit: specifically, a replication of Buffy's red leather pants or Xander's Hawaiian shirt.
Again I say, Wow! The creativity! The fun! I divided the entrants into three categories. The first was Buffy only:
This was admittedly not a highly competitive category.
The winner--blogless Michelle, who gets the Quotable Slayer book!
The next category was knitters only.
The winner--blogless Heidi, who gets her own set of Addi Turbo lace needles!
Finally, we have the most competitive category, the knitting Buffy fans:
Two winners out of this category. The first is Carrie, who won the Once More With Feeling soundtrack! Carrie is now well prepared for the future, as how can she not conquer the world if she knows all the lyrics to the Buffy musical?
The second name drawn is Kelly, who gets the Victorian Lace Today book! I emailed her to let her know she'd won and that I loved the idea of a Buffy KAL, and voila--she created the KAL. Now that is true Buffy dedication, don't'cha think? Stay tuned for more details--this KAL is unfolding as I write.
Finally, a gratuitous shot of my crappy knitting for a good cause. Youngest Son has to give a presentation in school today on M.C. Escher and optical illusions, so I made him a little Moebius scarf to wear. No--I didn't do it the cool way. I just knit a strip and seamed it. But better than nothing, right?
Happy spring, all you Buffy fans and knitters!
